Sand: One gallon of 40-30 medium silica sand weighs about 13.3 lbs. If you use one gallon of Concrete Mender with a 2 to 1 sand ratio. you will need 2 gallons of sand or 26.6 lbs.

Silica Sand, Industrial Quartz, or Aluminum Oxide?
Both 40-30 grit silica sand and 40-30 grit quartz sand are similar in composition but differ in purity, applications, and physical properties:
- Composition: Silica sand contains silicon dioxide (SiO₂) along with impurities like feldspar and clay, while quartz sand is almost pure SiO₂, making it higher in purity.
- Applications: Silica sand is versatile and used in construction, glassmaking, and filtration. Quartz sand, due to its purity, is preferred for electronics, specialty glass, and high-precision applications.
- Durability: Both are hard materials (Mohs hardness ~7), but quartz sand’s higher purity makes it more stable in extreme conditions.
- Cost: Quartz sand is generally more expensive due to its purity and specialized uses
Aluminum oxide is a coarse abrasive material composed of aluminum oxide particles. This type of abrasive is commonly used for heavy-duty sanding, grinding, and surface preparation tasks. The material is very hard and features sharp edges that grip into the surface, making it effective for creating durable repairs with Concrete Mender products.
Roadware recommends using Industrial Quartz sand or Aluminum Oxide for the most durable repairs in mission-critical and heavy-duty applications. Standard silica sand may contain impurities, dust, and moisture, which can weaken the strength and durability of repairs. Therefore, it is advisable to test the sand before using it extensively.
